KeepKeepKeeping up!

How hard is it to stay in-the-know these days? Damn near impossible sez me (unless you circumscribe the know by (non)willful ignorance). How can I (or you or them) keep up with everything on the Art Front, the Rock Front, the Front Front w/o leaving something behind (like actual experience)? I can't even keep up with my own blog promises let alone keeping tabs on what 'the jam of the summer' is going to be. Failure is assured.

This becomes especially true when your mind expands to allow for the possibility (the reality) of more and more and more worthwhile human artistic endeavors outside what you already know. Limited by time and experience it is guaranteed that there are genres and scenes and subgenres and microscenes that will burst on to yr radar with the brilliance of their pilus-like connect to the deep oneness of the perfect art wave. How can it be otherwise? If you deny this and refuse to dig you limit yourself and circumscribe and stagnate yr world. And that equals Death.

So where to look first?

The most obvious place to expand to is into the Other. As a white indie rocker this means (at least) 1) Soul & Hip Hop (and Funk and Reggae and non-western musics) and 2) Dance. Or Both in one (Diiiissssscccccccccooooooo).

Dance Dance Dance

Oh Dance music how I've flirted with you so! I pick up those Basic Channel and DFA 12"'s on the sly and hide my Disco rarities between my Post-Punk credibles. But no more hiding because if you hadn't heard Dance is back. No longer are hipsters hiding behind post-dancey-punk or cerbral german techno to strut their moves but going straight for dirty dirty house and dancing in the front. ED BANGER I LUV U. Oh if you want to make take a little of the decadent edge off their's today's DFA DC recordings. (FYI DFA has jumped the shark. It was offish w/ LCD's boring 2nd album). Is this stuff any good? Can it last? Don't ask me 'cuz I'll be on the dance floor.
